Experience
Talk to An Experienced Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Garamoni’s career has had three distinct phases over the past 37 years. He spent the first 10 years of his career in corporate settings, where he held progressively more responsible positions in human resources with Citibank, GTE, and PepsiCo. During the last three years of this period, he lived in Athens, Greece, where he was PepsiCo International’s Personnel Director for the Middle East and Africa.
These experiences have enabled Dr. Garamoni to help people make better career decisions and cope better with stressful situations at work. Having helped people from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and South America resolve career issues and relationship conflicts, Dr. Garamoni has the background to be more effective in helping people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
During the second phase of his career, Dr. Garamoni spent another 10 years in academic settings. While pursuing graduate and post-graduate training in clinical psychology, he provided therapy and testing services to children, adolescents and adults; taught courses to undergraduate students; delivered presentations to professional audiences and community organizations; and authored 20 peer-reviewed publications. Within academic circles, he is perhaps best known for the “States of Mind Model” developed with Dr. Robert M. Schwartz. This theory holds that emotional well-being is characterized by an optimal balance between positive and negative thinking, and that emotional illness is marked by deviations from this optimal balance.
During this period, Dr. Garamoni trained under leading experts on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sexual Disorders, Stress, and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. He was trained by experts in Couples Therapy/Marriage Counseling, Sex Therapy, Family Therapy, and Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Garamoni now specializes in these areas in his private practice.
Dr. Garamoni's training prepared him to be both a scientist and a practitioner. This training puts him in a better position to evaluate treatment options and select ones that are most likely to work for his clients in his evidence-based private practice.
The third phase of his career began 17 years ago when he opened a private practice in Ponte Vedra Beach. As a licensed psychologist, he provides therapy and testing services for children, adolescents, and adults. As an Adjunct Professor at University of North Florida, he has also taught an undergraduate course on research methods and a graduate course on mood disorders.
